ABC Eye clinic
Gazipur started its procedure in 1985 and currently the clinic is
providing the following services at a very nominal fee for self-sustaining of
the service:
- Out door service from Saturday to Thursday in a week
- 10 beds indoor service
- Cataract Surgeries with IOL surgeries
- Phaco surgeries including other major and minor surgeries
ABC Sherpur Eye
Clinic was established in 1988 at Sherpur upazilla under Bogra district
with two broad objectives (i) Prevention of Blindness and (ii) Rehabilitation
of Rural Blind persons. In order to achieve the objectives, the main activities
were conduct Sight Testing Program in rural areas, providing ophthalmic service
through eye clinic, training on primary eye and health care and prevention of
blindness and Rehabilitation of rural blind. After withdrawal of donor support
in 2000, at present the following services are in operation:
- Outdoor service from Saturday to Thursday in a week
- 5 beds indoor services
- IOL surgeries including minor surgeries
Braille Production
Unit
In
order to overcome acute shortage of Braille text books for visually impaired
students of the country ABC established Braille Production
Unit at Gazipur
ABC complex. It produces Braille education materials e.g. Braille text book,
Braille calendar, magazine etc for the children of ABC 7 hostels and also
supply to other organizations, school, college and university level students as
and when necessary. An in house mini
computerized Braille press publishes textbooks and literature of general interest
in both English and Bangla. School and college students send their requests for
transcription round the year.
Run hostel for the Visually Impaired children
ABC
has been running 7 hostels (1for girls and 6 for boys since 1978 and 1991
located at Gazipur, Mymensingh, Jamalpur, Sirajgonj, Comilla, Brahmanbaria and
Magura districts of Bangladesh. The seat capacity of each hostel is 10 but it
has been increased into 14 in the Gazipur girl's hostel considering gender
sensitivity and women empowerment aspect. ABC provides education support to the
Visually Impaired children from class one to ten. Many government, private, public and convent
schools in the mainstream after being convinced with the importance of
integration have collaborated with ABC and have opened their doors for blind
students. At the hostel, students have access to free boarding, lodging,
medical and recreational facilities,
which ensures that the children carry out their studies in a pleasant and relaxed
atmosphere.
SHOPNO Scholarship
ABC
has been providing with monthly scholarship to the meritorious ex-students of
ABC for completion 'Higher Secondary Certificate' education since 2006. ABC
receives this grant from "Shopno", a Japan based non-profit
organization. Mr. Bishawjit Roy, Executive Director of the organization is a
visually impaired person and was also an ex-student of ABC Camilla hostel.
After forming the 'Shopno' as organization, to support and encourage the
initiative it has been providing the scholarship for the students of ABC as
appreciation and social responsibility aspect. Shopno Scholarship for the year
2013 was distributed on 27-30/01/2014 among 10 selected students through
Gazipur, Sirajgonj, Brahmanbaria and Comilla Hostel Superintendents.
