Few days ago, I saw an advertisement of Green Bangla Foundation (GBF) wanting 'Assistant Project Director' at www.bdjobs.com. Like other candidates, I felt myself very enthusiast and applied for the post on 15th February 2017. I waited for a positive response till 28th February 2017 and I made phone call to the official mobile of Green Bangla Foundation (GBF). The receiver answered me that there will be an email at my inbox when the authority fixes the date of interview. Waiting for few other days, I called again on 13th March 2017 and found that the interview has been taken and the candidate has been selected on 11th March 2017. I felt a bit hurt as the appointing authority did not shortlist me as a candidate for the post.
I am almost local and the office of GBF is located very near to my residence. That is why it was not hard for me to get information about the office and the above mentioned interview. Lastly, I got information that the candidate for the post was pre-selected and the interview was just to maintain the formalities of the appointment procedure. I also got information that the newly appointed Assistant Project Director of GBF is a relative of the Managing Director of the organization. I am fully grateful to the authority of the organization as because they did not call me for the interview and one of the working days from my present office has been saved. Otherwise I had to take leave from my present workplace.
The above story is a common phenomenon of the NGO sector of Bangladesh. The mentioned NGO is a symbolic name but the irony is happening with the hundreds of the candidates everyday.
